Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network - Mike King is the chief announcer for the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Radio Network, and is the radio voice of all IndyCar Series events. King joined the IMS Radio Network in 1995 as a pit reporter for the Indianapolis 500. He was named chief announcer of the Indianapolis 500 and all IndyCar Series events in 1999.
A native of Winston-Salem , N.C. , King began his career in sports communications by serving as play-by-play announcer for Campbell University , his alma mater, from 1977-80. He was a sports writer and editor for several daily newspapers in North Carolina and returned to Campbell University as sports information director in 1981-82.
He embarked on a career in television in 1982, first working for the CBS affiliate in Greenville , N.C. He moved to Terre Haute , Ind. , in 1986 to assume the duties of sports director/producer for WTHI-10 TV.
